Our company, Sagma Enterprises, LLC has teamed up with Huebert Brewing Company to brew and market ”African Style Beers” in the United States. What are ”African Style Beers” one may ask. The answer is actually very simple.
Commercial beer brewing throughout most of the world is influenced by and evolved from Continental Europe beer brewing recipes, formulations and methodologies. For example, “American Style Beers” (lagers and ales) were brought to this country by immigrants from Europe. The Frederick Miller family (founders of Miller Brewing Company) and the Busch family (founders of Anheuser Busch Company) both became power houses in the American Beer Industry. Both these families came from Europe with their “beer brewing recipes”.
While Europeans were settling in North America, they were also settling in Africa and brought the European beer brewing techniques to Africa. This led to the birth of “African Style Beers” (mostly lagers).
Styles of beer are influenced by many factors, such as local resources (ingredients), Climate (hot or cold), and brewing methods. Brewing methods (“recipes”) are determined by the brewer to realize the desired beer color (dark, pale, golden), flavor (sweet or bitter), alcohol strength, aroma, “mouthfeel”, and market (consumer) appeal.
Since the arrival of the Europeans in Africa, “African Style Beers” have evolved and continue to evolve under different “marketing” names. Evolution of award winning beers result from “trial and error” by avid brew masters who take pride in their creations. Africa has had its share of award winning lagers: Mosi (Zambian Breweries), Laurentina (Mozambique Breweries), Zambezi (National Breweries of Zimbabwe) and Windhoek (Namibian Breweries).
Prevailing characteristics of “African Style Lagers” are: Light, Crisp, and refreshing. They are formulated for enjoyment in warm (hot) weather. Common grains used in the brewing process are corn (maize), sorghum and barley.
We bring to you our very own “African Style Lagers”, ZAMBEZIA PREMIUM LAGER (The beer with No After Taste Bitterness). KUDU PREMIUM LAGER, (The beer with a hint of Sweet Entry, and Hoppy Finish).
